Kinetica, Inc. offers a commercial sample testing
service for quantitative heat of reaction (Q) analysis with the
Quantitative Reaction Calorimeter (QRC). This service offers a
cost-effective method for obtaining real time kinetic and
thermodynamic data for condensed phase reactions.
The QRC is a power compensated
calorimeter with extremely rapid heat transport. An adiabatic
shield surrounds a cylindrical reaction vessel; the shield and the
reactor vessel are maintained at the same temperature. This prevents
heat loss or gain along the side and top of the calorimeter.
Precise isothermal conditions are maintained
within the reaction vessel by control of the heat flow with a foil
heater located between the bottom of the reaction vessel and the
heat exchanger. This arrangement compensates for the energy
changes induced by exothermic or endothermic reactions.
Changes in heat applied by the foil heater are directly proportional
to dQ/dt; this allows for evaluation of Q under isothermal conditions.
The QRC utilizes a stainless steel reaction vessel
with computer controlled reagent addition. Heat flow data are
independent of sample volume, wetted surface area, and stirring
rate. The QRC is operable within the range, -20 to 200
º C.
A complete test report includes plots for
control heater power, calibration power, heat of reaction, reagent
addition volume, vessel pressure, and vessel temperature as functions
of time. Major applications for the QRC include heat of
solution and mixing, pilot plant simulation, process development and
process safety.
Typical users of the QRC service are small-
and medium-sized companies that have a specialized and possibly a
one-time need for reaction calorimetry data for use in process
development and optimization. If you would like

services, please contact Kinetica .
